Maker and Restorer of Fine Bows Expert Appraisals Restorations © Michael J. Taylor             fine restoration is not undertaken to replace a fine repair. Some parts of the bow will wear out, but fortunately these parts have been designed to be replaceable. Sometimes the bow might even receive accidental damage and it is when these other parts have become damaged, a restoration will come to the fore.      To uphold the value of a bow, its maintenance is paramount and with regards to this, both repairs and restorations are of utmost importance. Equally, a fine restoration of an undamaged bow can make that bow appreciate considerably, more so when considering it for sale: A worthy consideration.      Fine musicians require confidence at all times with their equipment. Faith in one’s instruments and bows is a valuable commodity.      High quality work and service is a must.      Restorations are often expensive and unlike many repairs, accidental damage can be claimed on insurance. Justifiably so, when the damage is outside the description of normal wear and tear.      Although minor by comparison, a fine bow can sometimes require restoration just to maintain its value.      As with repairs, pricing must be sensitive to the needs of the player and where necessary also to the insurance companies.
