Maker and Restorer of Fine Bows Expert Appraisals Repairs © Michael J. Taylor           ne cannot underestimate the importance of a fine repair, unlike the term ‘restoration’ that has its definition within the improvement of the appearance of the bow.  The word ‘repair’, however, misconstrues what a repair actually does; the word ‘maintenance’ would be much more descriptive.      Repairs are a prime function for the continuing usability of bows. It is extremely important that the advice given, and the carrying out of the repairs, is carefully matched to the players requirements. I have had nearly 40 years experience in the making, restoring and repairing of fine bows; no task is to big or too small.      Fine musicians require confidence at all times with their equipment. Faith in one’s instruments and bows is a valuable commodity.      High quality work and service is a must.      Repairs can sometimes be expensive and unlike many restorations, from accidental damage, can rarely be claimed on insurance.      Pricing must be sensitive to the needs of the player.
